What is a unique student identifier (USI)?
A USI, or Unique Student Identifier, is a ten character code made up of letters and numbers. It creates a secure online record of all your nationally recognised training in Australia.
Why do I need a USI?
ou need a USI to:
-
Receive your certificate
-
Access your training records at any time
-
Provide proof of training to employers or future training providers
You only need to apply once and your USI stays with you for life.
How do I get a USI?
It is free and quick to apply online via www.usi.gov.au.
You will need one form of identification such as a driver’s licence, Medicare card or passport.
What if I’ve forgotten my USI?
You can retrieve your USI at any time through the USI website using your personal details.
Why do you need my date of birth when booking?
Your date of birth is required to correctly identify you within the national training system and to match your records to your USI. This helps prevent errors and ensures your certificate is issued accurately.
Will I receive a certificate after completing my course?
Yes. Once you have successfully completed the course and met all assessment requirements, you will receive a nationally recognised certificate for accredited training.
Why can’t my certificate be issued without a USI?
By law, Registered Training Organisations cannot issue certificates for accredited training unless a valid unique student identifier number (USI) has been provided. Without a USI, your results cannot be uploaded and your certificate cannot be released.
